Get your Smart Meter Texas file in about five minutes

You create the account. MeterTruth never asks for your password. When the CSV lands, upload it on the usage step— parsing happens in your browser.

Step 01

Open the state's meter portal

Go to smartmetertexas.com. This is the state's portal, not a retailer. It's free.

Step 02

Choose residential

When asked, pick residential. Commercial registration asks for different account fields.

Step 03

Enter your ESIID and meter number

Both are on your electricity bill. The ESIID is 17 digits. Type placeholders if you are screenshotting for someone else — never share the real values in a group chat.

Step 04

If the bill doesn't label it clearly

Look for a 17-digit identifier near the service address or meter section. Your retailer's account portal usually shows it too.

Step 05

Verify the email

They email you. It can take a few minutes. Stay on this tab until it arrives.

Step 06

You land on the dashboard

Once you're in, look for reports, interval data, or energy data — wording varies slightly over time.

Step 07

Open interval / energy reports

Find the path to interval or energy data. You want the 15-minute export, not a PDF summary.

Step 08

Ask for a full year

Set the date range to a full twelve months. If the portal caps the range, download in chunks — MeterTruth accepts multiple files.

Step 09

Download CSV, not PDF

Choose CSV. The PDF is a summary and will not work in the audit.

Prefer not to register?

Type twelve monthly kWh totals from your bills or your retailer's usage history on the audit usage step. You lose the hourly shape (so time-of-use plans stay estimates), but the ranking still uses your real months.

Screenshots and short recordings will appear in the empty media slots above once captured (see docs/asset-checklist.md). Until then the captions stand alone.
